REJECTED – To Self Publish or not to Self Publish
I received my first rejection from a publisher this week.
I thought there would be much wailing and knashing of teeth but twas not so. Surprisingly, I actually feel like a real writer now. After years of reading about how books like Harry Potter and Gone with the Wind were rejected over and over, I am in good company.
Was I shocked that my masterpiece was overlooked? Not really. How many training books are out there who have not been written by some famous trainer or are endorsed by a celebrity? Not many.
My book is a 12-week training challenge aimed at women over 40, but would still provide a great workout for most people. It had a ‘hook’ which I thought would work in my favour and my writing tutor thought it was a great idea so I am not disheartened and will soldier on.
I sent it straight to a publisher as it is non-fiction and was informed that an agent was not as necessary for non-fiction. However, I may send it off to a consultant to help with the layout etc.
Of course, now that self-publishing is so accessible and straight forward, I could go down that route. Unfortunately, I am not very technically minded and as the book would require photos, graphics, tip boxes etc I think I may leave this as my last resort.
I will try and look for others who have self published non-fiction books to find out how they got on.
