A proofread of your document/manuscript is the final quality check before publication.
Because the proofread is done near the end of the publication process, it usually involves fixing any remaining errors.
Unless briefed otherwise and paid accordingly, this service doesn’t include rewording sentences, or making structural interventions such as reordering blocks of text or inserting headings. Any fact checking would have been dealt with during the copyedit, although I would raise a query about anything that seems incorrect. It is essential to understand that these exclusions are in place to maintain the integrity of the original work and to ensure that the focus remains on the specific tasks outlined in the agreement. Clients who require extensive modifications or a thorough review of factual content are encouraged to discuss their needs in detail prior to commencing the project, as this will enable me to allocate the necessary resources and time to meet those expectations effectively.
To proofread your manuscript/document, I will:
- Check spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Check headings and subheadings
- Ensure correct use of capitalisation and hyphenation
- Check consistency of names/places, formatting, word use, hyphenation, spacing and layout
- Query any jumbled text or fact errors
- Apply your house style (where relevant)
Format: Word document (recommended) PDF or Google Docs
