Copyediting

If your project needs some style and sentence intervention, you require a copyedit to enhance its overall quality and cohesion. This is the next stage of editing after your work has been through a developmental/structural edit to ensure the big picture concept or story is sound. During this crucial phase, I will meticulously examine each sentence and provide thoughtful suggestions that could significantly improve readability and flow. This process will entail not only refining awkward phrasings and eliminating redundancies but also ensuring that each sentence contributes meaningfully to the overarching narrative or argument. By focusing on clarity and precision, I aim to elevate your writing, making it more engaging and impactful for your audience, allowing your voice to shine through effectively.

  • Giving you advice on re-writing sentences or suggesting more appropriate/powerful words
  • Dealing with clarity/ambiguity/repetition/verbosity
  • Checking grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • Creating a style sheet for you
  • Marking up using Track Changes in Word
  • Checking continuity regarding the narrative and any displayed material
  • Ensure consistency of style throughout the project
  • Informing you of any libel/bias

I will provide you with a style sheet if you don’t have one and you have the option of an online meeting to discuss your work.

A Style Sheet is a record of your style choices with regard to language, grammar, spelling preferences, names/places/dates, and a timeline of specific events. It ensures your style is consistent throughout your manuscript which, in turn, can drastically reduce your final editing costs.

Note: An 80,000-word novel would take between 30–80hrs or 1½–3½ weeks, depending on the amount of intervention required. I will ask to see a sample of your work before taking on any project. This allows me to give you a clearer idea of the total cost, and whether I am the right editor to work with you on your manuscript or document.

Format: Word document
