About Wendy Ogilvie
Hi, I’m Wendy, a fiction editor specialising in crime and romance. I work with authors in the UK and internationally, helping strengthen story structure, refine flow and polish manuscripts for publication.
I began as a writer and English language and literature tutor, so I understand storytelling from both a creative and technical perspective.
I love working across crime and romance sub-genres, whether it’s building tension in a mystery or deepening emotional connection in a romance. My goal is to make the editing process collaborative, so you feel supported while strengthening both your manuscript and your skills as a writer.
Professional Background
I’ve worked with small publishers, public figures, and independent authors on projects ranging from eco-thrillers, paranormal cosy crime and various sub-genre romances, plus selected non-fiction health and wellness titles, across print and digital formats.
I’m a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and work in accordance with their Code of Practice, ensuring professional standards, confidentiality and editorial integrity.
My Fiction Editing Journey
I set out wanting to be the next Jane Austen and began my writing journey by completing a course with The Writers Bureau.
While working on my first two novels, I became fascinated by the editing process and began studying it to strengthen my own writing. It worked. When I later shared my manuscript with a professional editor, there were no areas flagged for critique.
Encouraged by this, I continued my training with the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. I now use those skills to help you refine your manuscript and prepare your story for publication with clarity and confidence.
Non-Fiction & Industry Experience
My background in the health and fitness industry spans over 25 years. As a personal trainer, fitness course writer and course tutor, I developed a strong understanding of clarity, reader engagement and structured communication.
When working with you, my aim is to ensure your narrative provides the best possible reader experience while preserving your voice and style.
