Fiction
As a professional fiction editor, I work closely with authors to strengthen structure, sharpen pacing and elevate storytelling across crime, thriller and romance genres.
Here are a few of the books I have been lucky enough to work on. These are all from private clients, although I have worked on many others for various publishers. I have had the pleasure of collaborating with authors from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise, from thrilling mysteries to heart-warming romance. Each project has provided a unique opportunity to contribute to the literary world.
Working closely with private clients has allowed me to understand their vision and bring it to life through my editing expertise, helping them to create impactful stories that resonate with readers on a personal level.
Selected client work

Proofreading
Proofreading – Dawn Knox
Dawn Knox is an award-winning author who writes captivating historical romance novels that transport readers to different eras filled with passion and intrigue. I have been lucky enough to collaborate with Dawn on nine books in total, including all the delightful instalments of the Lady Amelia Saga series, which have garnered a dedicated following.
“Wendy, thank you so much for all your suggestions and comments on my novels, they were so insightful. I’m certainly better at editing my own work now!”

Beta Read
Beta Read – Charlie Bravo
Charlie Bravo is a prolific writer who has crafted over fifty novels. I was asked by the author to read the story as it was based in London and the author is from the United States. Although he had visited for research purposes, I was able to give him feedback on the local geography, colloquialisms and word choices.
“Wendy did an amazing job with this project. I needed some in-depth feedback on a tight deadline and she delivered more than I expected. She beat the deadline, was great in her communication and her professional feedback helped me turn the story into the best version of itself. Wendy definitely exceeded my expectations.“

Forensic 500
Forensic 500 – Saul Ben
It takes courage for an experienced author to put their work forward to be nit-picked word by word, but as you’ll see from the feedback, even accomplished writers can learn something about their craft.
The Forensic 500 process of scrutiny not only helps identify a writers personal “tics”, but it also opens up a dialogue about different writing styles and techniques that can enrich an author’s skill set.
“Wendy, forgive me if I go a bit gushy. But thanks so much for those incredibly insightful comments… I feel like I’ve just been given a deep tissue massage! I really appreciate it.”

Manuscript Evaluation
Manuscript Evaluation – Jeff Mullen
Jeff was a first-time author who needed help making his manuscript ready for publishing.
I looked at the main story elements: structure, plot points, settings, pace, voice, characters’ object of desire etc., and provided a twelve-page document with comments and suggestions on how to fix any elements that needed improving. I also provided more specific comments within the manuscript using Track Changes in Word.
“I could tell right away that we would work well together… You’ve given me many excellent suggestions to improve my book, always couched professionally and encouragingly.”
My Approach to Fiction Editing
Every manuscript is different. Some authors need deep structural guidance, others require careful line refinement or strategic feedback before submission. My role as a fiction editor is not to rewrite your voice, but to refine it.
I focus on pacing, character motivation, narrative tension and emotional payoff, ensuring that readers stay engaged from the opening chapter to the final page. My feedback is detailed, constructive and always designed to move your book closer to professional publication standards.
