Here are a few of the books I have been lucky enough to work on. These are all from private clients, although I have worked on many others for various publishers. I have had the pleasure of collaborating with authors from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise, from thrilling mysteries to heart-warming romance. Each project has provided a unique opportunity to contribute to the literary world.
Working closely with private clients has allowed me to understand their vision and bring it to life through my editing expertise, helping them to create impactful stories that resonate with readers on a personal level.

Proofreading
Dawn Knox is an award-winning author who writes captivating historical romance novels that transport readers to different eras filled with passion and intrigue. I have been lucky enough to collaborate with Dawn on nine books in total, including all the delightful instalments of the Lady Amelia Saga series, which have garnered a dedicated following.
Working alongside Dawn is truly a joy, as her writing is rich in detail and emotion, drawing readers into vivid worlds and complex characters that linger long after you turn the last page. Each project we undertake together leaves me inspired and eager to see how her storytelling continues to evolve.
Wendy, thank you so much for all your suggestions and comments on my novels, they were so insightful. I’m certainly better at editing my own work now!

Beta Read
Charlie Bravo is a prolific writer who has crafted over fifty novels. I was asked by the author to read the story as it was based in London and the author is from the United States. Although he had visited for research purposes, I was able to give him feedback on the local geography, colloquialisms and word choices.
“Wendy did an amazing job with this project. I needed some in-depth feedback on a tight deadline and she delivered more than I expected. She beat the deadline, was great in her communication and her professional feedback helped me turn the story into the best version of itself. Wendy definitely exceeded my expectations.“

Forensic 500
It takes courage for an experienced author to put their work forward to be nit-picked word-by-word, but as you’ll see from the feedback, even accomplished writers can learn something about their craft.
The Forensic 500 process of scrutiny not only helps identify a writers personal ‘tics’, but it also opens up a dialogue about different writing styles and techniques that can enrich an author’s skill set. As they engage with critiques, writers discover fresh perspectives, enabling them to refine their voice and enhance the impact of their message. Ultimately, every piece of feedback serves to encourage authors to bravely embrace the vulnerability that comes with sharing their art in a public arena.
Wendy, forgive me if I go a bit gushy. But thanks so much for those incredibly insightful comments. I tend to embroider, to show off by demonstrating my knowledge of the subject with detail, even get a bit preachy. This time I purposefully kept descriptions and opinions minimal, so thanks for permission to add a little embroidery, just a little. I masochistically enjoyed being beaten up over the clichés. I knew ‘as far as the eye can see’ was wrong, but lazily did it anyway. As soon as I have worked out what a subordinate clause is I’ll start work on it.
I feel like I’ve just been given a deep tissue massage! I really appreciate it.

Manuscript Evaluation
Jeff was a first-time author who needed help making his manuscript ready for publishing.
I looked at the main story elements: structure, plot points, settings, pace, voice, characters’ object of desire etc., and provided a twelve-page document with comments and suggestions on how to fix any elements that needed improving. I also provided more specific comments within the manuscript using Track Changes in Word.
Once Jeff had worked through the evaluation and made any changes necessary, we had an online meeting to discuss his next steps.
I later formatted Jeff’s novel and provided the relevant documents for publishing with a traditional publisher or uploading to a self-publishing platform.
Author’s feedback – I could tell right away that we would work well together, and I was impressed by your professionalism, candor and easy going manner. You’ve given me many excellent suggestions to improve my book, always couched professionally and encouragingly.
I am very pleased with your work, and I look forward to digging into your suggestions. Thank you for your offer of free help with the jacket blurb and marketing materials!
