Developmental edit

Fiction

This service provides a more in-depth look at each scene, inciting incidents and pinch points including what percentage of the novel they represent. I will initially read through your manuscript taking notes on the following areas:

  • Genre/audience
  • Point of View
  • Narrative style
  • Genre expectations
  • Structure/flow
  • Setting
  • Controlling theme/message
  • Object of desire (protagonist and antagonist)
  • Character development/arc
  • Voice/dialogue
  • Plot and conflict
  • Timelines
  • Sub plot
  • Pace
  • Opening scene

Once I have a clear idea of what level your story is at (1,2,3,4 or 5), we can move forward from there.

I’ll set up a time for us to chat about the various elements of your novel before I your manuscript along with a detailed report. The report is my insights and suggestions; what you do with them is up to you!

Once you’ve looked at my feedback and made some changes, we’ll book a meeting to chat about how to move forward and decide if there’s anything else we can tweak to make it even better.

The process of a developmental edit for an 80k-word novel, can take from 53–320 hours or 2.5–12 weeks or 250–1,500 words per hour depending on your personal requirements and level of intervention.

Feel free to call me for a chat about your novel. No obligation.
